The approach

Software a small business can actually live with

Big-company architecture comes with big-company bills. Every project I take on follows four rules that keep it simple to run, cheap to host and easy to hand over.

  • Simple by design

Fewer moving parts mean fewer things to break and fewer bills to pay. You get clear, documented code that any competent developer can pick up, not a puzzle that only I can solve.

  • Portable, never locked in

Standard Go, standard SQL or MongoDB, open formats. Your app can move to another host or another developer without a rewrite.

  • Predictable IT costs

Hosting scales down when nobody is using it, and budget alerts are in place from day one. You pay for real usage, not for servers sitting idle.

  • Secure from the first line

Validated input, least-privilege access, managed secrets, dependency scanning and strict security headers come as standard, not as extras.

Services

From first idea to a running, growing application

One developer across the whole stack, from database to design, so nothing gets lost between teams.

All services
  • Custom Web Applications

Customer portals, booking and ordering systems, internal tools and dashboards, shaped around how your business actually works.

  • Go Backends & APIs

Highly optimized, secure Go services and REST APIs that start instantly, cost little to host and are easy to maintain.

  • Angular & Vue Front Ends

Responsive, accessible interfaces in Angular or Vue that your staff and customers will enjoy using, on any device.

  • Database Design

Data models designed for your business with PostgreSQL or MongoDB, plus migrations out of spreadsheets and legacy systems.

  • Google Cloud & Workspace

Hosting on App Engine and Cloud Run, wired into Gmail, Calendar, Sheets, Drive and Chat, so your app works with the tools you already pay for.

  • Marketing-Ready Websites

Fast, search-friendly sites with analytics, conversion tracking and lead capture built in, so your software helps you win customers.

  • Legacy App Modernization

Rescue an aging app: move it to a supported, secure platform without losing data or disrupting the business.

  • Not sure which of these you need?

Most projects mix several. Describe the problem in plain words and I will suggest the simplest way to solve it.

    Describe your project

The stack

Proven technology, chosen for the long run

Each tool here earns its place by being fast, secure, well supported and easy to hire for. No experiments on your budget.

Backend

Go for a fast, secure backend

Go compiles to a single small program with no runtime to install or patch, and it starts in milliseconds, which makes it ideal for hosting that scales up and down with demand. Its standard library covers HTTP, TLS, JSON and cryptography, so apps need few third-party packages, and every package that remains is checked for known vulnerabilities.

  • A single binary, nothing extra to keep patched
  • Thousands of requests a second on the smallest servers
  • Plain, explicit code another developer can read
  • Validation, least-privilege access and security headers by default

Go · REST & JSON APIs · gRPC · govulncheck · staticcheck

Front end

Angular or Vue, chosen for the job

Angular brings structure to large, form-heavy business applications with many screens. Vue is lighter and quicker to build with, and it is ideal for customer-facing sites and for adding interactivity to pages that must stay search-friendly, like this one. Either way you get a responsive, accessible interface that works as well on a phone as on a desktop.

  • Mobile-first layouts with Tailwind CSS
  • Accessible forms and full keyboard support
  • Pre-rendered pages where search visibility matters
  • TypeScript for applications that will grow

Angular · Vue 3 · TypeScript · Tailwind CSS · Vite

Database

PostgreSQL or MongoDB, matched to your data

PostgreSQL is my default for business records such as orders, invoices and bookings, where relationships and accuracy matter. MongoDB fits content, catalogs and data whose shape changes often. Either way your data stays in an open, standard format that you can export, back up and take with you.

  • Schemas designed for how you actually query
  • Automated, tested backups
  • Indexes tuned for speed as the data grows
  • Open formats, so your data is never held hostage

PostgreSQL · MongoDB · Cloud SQL · MongoDB Atlas

Cloud

Google Cloud, sized for a small business

App Engine and Cloud Run run your application without servers to manage. Google handles the operating system, security patches, HTTPS certificates and scaling. Quiet apps scale down when nobody is using them, so you pay for real use rather than idle machines, and budget alerts make sure the bill never surprises you.

  • No servers to patch or babysit
  • Automatic HTTPS and scaling
  • Pay for use, with budget alerts
  • Secrets kept in Secret Manager, never in code

App Engine · Cloud Run · Cloud SQL · Cloud Storage · Secret Manager

Workspace

Plugged into the Google Workspace you already use

Your team already lives in Gmail, Calendar, Sheets and Drive. Instead of adding another login and another subscription, your app works with them: staff sign in with their Google accounts, records flow into Sheets, bookings land on calendars and documents file themselves in Drive.

  • Sign in with Google, so there are no new passwords
  • Leads and orders flow into Google Sheets
  • Bookings appear on Google Calendar
  • Alerts arrive in Google Chat or Gmail

Google Sign-In · Sheets API · Calendar API · Drive API · Gmail API · Google Chat

AI workflow

An in-house AI workflow, with a human in charge

I use my own AI-assisted design and development workflow to turn requirements into prototypes, data models and tested code much faster than writing everything by hand. It builds on patterns already proven in production, and I review, test and security-check every change before it ships.

  • Prototypes you can click through early
  • Code built on proven, secure patterns
  • Automated tests generated alongside the code
  • Every line reviewed by an experienced developer

AI-assisted design · Pattern-based code generation · Automated testing · Security scanning

Google Cloud + Google Workspace

Built around the tools your team already uses

Most small businesses already pay for Google Workspace. Your app should make that investment work harder, not add another login and another subscription.

This website follows the same approach: every message sent through the contact form lands in a Google Sheet and a Google Chat space.

On Google Cloud

  • App Engine
  • Cloud Run
  • Cloud SQL
  • Cloud Storage
  • Secret Manager
  • Budgets & alerts
  • Sign in with Google

Staff use their existing Google accounts. No new passwords, and access ends the moment an account is suspended.

  • Sheets as a live data source

Orders, leads and reports flow into the spreadsheets your team already knows, and edits can flow back.

  • Calendar bookings

Appointments and deadlines appear on the right Google Calendar automatically.

  • Drive documents

Quotes, invoices and uploads are filed in shared Drive folders with the right permissions.

  • Chat and Gmail alerts

A new order or a problem pings a Google Chat space or an inbox, so nothing waits to be noticed.

  • Looker Studio reports

Live dashboards on your app's data, shared like any other Google document.

Marketing built in

Every app is also a marketing asset

A small business cannot afford software that just sits there. I build with growth in mind from day one, so your app helps people find you, trust you and buy from you.

How marketing-ready development works
  • Search-ready pages

Pre-rendered HTML, clean URLs, structured data, sitemaps and fast load times, the foundations that search engines reward.

  • Fast on every phone

Lean pages and optimized assets that do well on Core Web Vitals, because slow pages lose customers.

  • Measurable from launch

Google Analytics and Search Console set up around the conversions that matter to you, so you know what is working.

  • Lead capture that follows up

Forms that record where each lead came from and route it straight to your team, your CRM or your inbox.

AI-accelerated development

An in-house AI workflow, with a senior developer in charge

I adopted AI early and built my own design-to-code workflow around it. It handles the repetitive work at machine speed, and 25 years of experience decide what ships.

  1. 01

    Design

Requirements become screens, data models and API designs in days rather than weeks, so you can see and change the app before it is built.

  2. 02

    Generate

Code is produced from patterns already proven in production, with the same security, structure and tests in every project.

  3. 03

    Verify

I read, test and security-scan every change. Nothing reaches your app on the strength of AI alone.

  • Shorter timelines
  • Lower development cost
  • Tested and optimized from the start

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Something else on your mind? Ask me directly.

What kind of businesses do you work with?
Mostly small and growing businesses that need software shaped around how they actually work: customer portals, booking and ordering systems, internal tools, dashboards, and the websites that bring customers in. If your team is juggling spreadsheets and email to keep a process running, it is probably a good fit.
Why do you build backends in Go?
Go produces small, fast, self-contained programs with very few dependencies. That means low hosting costs, quick start-up on serverless platforms, fewer security updates to chase, and code that another developer can read. Google built Go for exactly this kind of work. There is more on this in Why I build small-business backends in Go.
Angular or Vue — which will my app use?
It depends on the app. Angular suits large, form-heavy business applications with many screens. Vue is lighter and ideal for customer-facing sites and for adding interactivity to search-friendly pages. I will recommend one for your project and explain why.
PostgreSQL or MongoDB?
PostgreSQL is my default for business records where accuracy and relationships matter: orders, invoices, bookings. MongoDB is a strong fit for content, catalogs and data whose shape changes often. Both are open, widely supported, and easy to back up and move. See PostgreSQL or MongoDB? A practical guide.
Do I have to host on Google Cloud?
No. I recommend Google Cloud because it costs little at small scale and integrates tightly with Google Workspace. But every app is built to be portable, so the same code can run on another cloud or on your own server.
Can my own team look after the app after launch?
That is the goal. A simple architecture, managed hosting and clear documentation mean that routine upkeep does not need a developer on call. When you do need changes, any competent Go developer can pick up the code, or I am happy to keep supporting it.
How do you use AI, and is it safe?
AI speeds up design and code generation inside my own workflow. It works on specifications, designs and code, not on your customers’ data, and I review, test and security-scan every change before it ships. You get the speed of AI with the judgement of a developer who has been doing this for 25 years.
What does a project cost?
It depends on the scope, so there is no one-size price list. After a short discovery conversation you get a written estimate broken down by feature, so you can decide what to build first. It also includes an estimate of the monthly hosting cost, which is modest for most small-business apps.

Got a spreadsheet that has outgrown itself?

Or an idea for a customer portal, or an old app that needs rescuing? Tell me about it. The first conversation is about your business, not about technology.
